ODS SYSTEM Overburden Drilling system

Roschen's ODS system is a proven two-part Eccentric Overburden Drilling system designed for the simultaneous drilling and casing of holes, through unstable ground conditions.

Key Features:

1. Available for casing sizes from 114mm (4 1/2") to 273mm (10¾") diameter Simple two-part design for better transfer of energy to Bit face
2. Optimal drilling performance in unstable ground conditions
3. The Eccentric Bit can be easily and quickly removed for replacement or refurbishment
4.  "open and closed" locking arrangement inside the bit holder so nothing can prevent the Eccentric Bit from closing
5. The ODS Bit has a positive pilot design which helps guide the Eccentric Bit and produce a straighter hole

The ODS is a two part eccentric overburden drilling system designed for the simultaneous installation of casings to support unstable ground conditions.

The bit holder is fitted into the hammer in the same way as a conventional button bit would be.

The eccentric button bit is locked into the bit holder by means of a double 'Seloc' pin arrangement which can be removed when the bit needs either regrinding or replacing.

ROSCHEN only supply threaded casings but the system can also be used with less expensive welded casings when the casing is required to be left in the hole. 


When the ODS system has been drilled to the required depth, the eccentric bit can be closed to its concentric position by pulling up against the casing shoe and counter rotating 180 degrees, and the complete system withdrawn from the casing.


If required, it is then possible to drill on into solid rock using a conventional button bit of a diameter equal to the system size.
It is important to make sure that a stabiliser of the correct dimensions is positioned directly behind the hammer.
