How to do laryngoscopy and is it uncomfortable
There are various types of laryngoscopes, and different laryngoscopes have different examination methods, which can also cause different degrees of discomfort.
1. Indirect laryngoscope: The doctor uses a gauze to hold the patient's tongue, puts the medical laryngoscope from the left corner of the mouth, and observes whether there is a lesion in the throat through the reflection of the mirror.
2. Fiber laryngoscope and electronic laryngoscope: after spraying anesthetic in the throat, use optical fiber to enter the throat from the nose or mouth for examination. It can be seen that indirect laryngoscopy can cause obvious pain when pulling the tongue, and other laryngoscopes have carried out topical anesthesia before examination, which is conducive to reducing pharyngeal sensitivity and relaxing the throat muscles, which is convenient for the probe to go deeper, so that the patient basically does not feel the pain. However, when laryngoscopes enter the throat as a foreign body, it is inevitable that they will react to the epiglottis when they touch it, causing nausea and vomiting.
