Stratex was designed as an overburden drilling system that advances casing while drilling. Collapsing holes tend to be a problem when drilling through overburden. Stratex is the solution when you need a cased hole. The patented Stratex overburden S.D.S system was designed in coordination with drillers to be used in coordination with a DTH Hammer and simultaneously advance the drill string and casing.

The Stratex eccentric bit design is rotated outward to drill a larger diameter hole. Then the casing and overburden drill string are advanced through the ground. Setting a cased hole in this way helps to avoid cave-ins and wash outs. Once the required hole depth is met, the reamer bit can be retracted by reversing the direction of rotation and applying tension. Since the bit is eccentric the outside diameter becomes smaller than the inside diameter of the casing and this allows for easy removal of the pilot bit, reamer, guide device and the rest of the overburden drill string.

Stratex Overburden Drilling Applications

 

The stratex overburden drilling system is used in the following applications: drilling blast holes, casing water wells, setting pilings and foundations for bridges and buildings, slant or horizontal drilling, drilling air holes for mines, environmental monitoring wells, grouting operations, seismic shot holes, soil sample and geotechnical applications, ground anomaly and tiebacks.

  1. One-piece shank and guide device manufactured from the highest quality material with stringent quality control.
     
  2. Air jets are used to prevent any malfunction of the opening and retraction of the reamer pilot bit operation and the clearing of cuttings above the reamer pilot bit system.
  3. Sealed bearing system for ease in rotating the eccentric bit outward or retracting it into the casing.
     
  4. Casing with shoe: Casing may be supplied with plain or threaded ends.
     
  5. Grooved bypass directly above the lock system to clear cuttings and ensure complete drilling face contact.
     
  6. Tapered shoulder on the reamer bit eliminates casing binding and assists in the retracting of the reamer bit into the casing.
     
  7. One-piece reamer and pilot bit manufactured from the highest quality material, with stringent quality control.
     
  8. Gauge protection carbides on heavy duty, one-piece pilot and reamer bit.
     
  9. Dome carbides on heavy duty pilot and reamer bit
